So we had a big game in Chalmette this weekend... John Ehret and Chalmette battled for what would likely be a 5A district championship and the game was close throughout.
The crowd sat on its hands almost the whole game, until the last minute. It was very disappointing. Maybe at the end a few people cheered like they cared, but I wonder if this is happening all over the state and why. It seems like our parents go to games to support their kids who happen to play football/band/cheerleader/Charmer and not support the whole team and whole school.
Supposedly small town crowds are better, but we don't all live in small towns...

Look its like that everywhere mostly now, its not the same and I dont expect it to be until postseason comes around. Sure, there are alot of schools who still want that district title cause it means alot and its something to shoot for, but you have to remember, games are not as big and important anymore like they used to be, everyone basically gets into the postseason so regular season matchups are not as big of a deal and dont get as much coverage from the media as in the past. Now, when playoffs do come around I think you will see more interest of course from fans and more media coverage but this isnt the same type of football alot of these communities saw 15-20 year ago.

I think smartphones have some of the blame too... It's a shame bc we're trying to get that home playoff game, but what's the point if it's gonna be like that? And it might have had something to do with the probable top 2 teams in district meeting in week 5... The last time we did win district, in a 3 way tie, the team we beat for it we played in week 4... That couldn't feel too much like a championship. The schedules need to reflect who might be good in a district so they meet as late as possible

People cant do anything now days without staring into their phones the majority of the time. You can go to a restaurant and see a couple on a date and they both stay playing on their phones the entire time. Its funny but i see our fans get way more into our basketball games than football. I see way more students attending basketball games than the football games. I graduated in 2002 and i never see any of my classmates and hardly anyone near my age at our games.

Well where the hell do you think LSU's players come from? They don't just show up like magic

I think adding to the situation is the fact that we seem to have evolved into a championship or bust sportsworld. Look at Les Miles. Tremendous record, winning percentage etc...but "only" one championship...he "sucks". Power points have made district championships virtually worthless. In college ball, winning 9 games and going to a bowl game is worthless, if you aren't in the CFP, the season was a failure.
Plus many of these kids play that foolish travel ball where they get "rings" after winning a 5 game tournament.

Its just the opposite with DeQuincy, we hardly have anyone show up for basketball except the parents, baseball and softball depends on who we play, for example of we play Kinder then it’s a packed house, if we play Pickering there will hardly be anybody there because they know we usually beat them pretty bad. Football is always a packed house especially when we play Vinton and South Beau, even some of the kids from Singer will be at the games of course because they don’t have a football program but we have a lot of older folks that have been coming to the games since back when they we’re in school, we always have a lot of fans travel as well and it doesn’t matter which side of the state we’re playing on, they’re usually there to support, hopefully we can get things back to what it was back in the 80’s and 90’s

When you put those resources in, you tend to expect a return compatible with them... The district championships may indeed seem worthless, but I firmly believe you need to establish yourself as the best team in them before talking about state.

People seem to have very little perspective now as well. I’ve seen people say how horrible It was to watch LSU football was under Miles. My LSU watching days goes back to Charles McClendon. Miles won games at a clip none else at LSU has as of yet. If that’s horrible to watch, then you must never have liked LSU football. We live in the age of hyperbole.

I think it’s worse with power conferences in the NCAA but It is pervasive in our culture now, IMO.
