So if the playoffs are "watered down", and we are handing out "participation trophies", just WHO are the teams that dont deserve the championship trophies? Where and who has all these "participation trophies"?

Where and who has all these "participation trophies"? Historically there have been 10 trophies, 5 champs and 5 runners-up. The past two years there have been 18 trophies. I would call that watered down.

I wish the people who are talking about participation trophies would come to kinder and tell the boys who won state this. Or any other champ, public or private. The boys only play who they are told to. What a shame to hear this from grown people, especially if you have a son who plays...like me.

With all due respect to the kids it's the adults making the system watered down. 75% of the teams make the playoffs and 9 championships is watered down. No one will ever take that away from the kids but it doesn't change the math.

They did what was required of them. But the reality is, we had 8 teams crowned state champions the past two years, that WOULD NOT have happened before the split. That fact, along with the fact that so many losing teams made the playoffs, leads me to believe the system is watered down. If splitting is so good, let's go ahead a split again and next year have 16 state champions.

The public schools HAVE to win more championships than the privates or they will take their ball and go home. So it will be 9 public champions and 8 private champions.

I love the fact that you guys have nothing better to do than whine about non-issues because you didn't get your way.
if you don't like it, form your own association. In my opinion, a championship trophy in a league of 20 teams is a lot more watered down than anything in the LHSAA.

Actuyally, it was supposed to be 7 championships, but the select side decided to add a 3rd division. Your "historical" viewpoint is in significant considering the history of high school football classes and championships in Louisiana. The earth is flat and the center of the universe. Humans cant run a 4 minute mile. George Washington had wooden teeth. Cholesterol in eggs is bad for the heart LHSAA is handing out participation trophies.

Bigbob don't sweat these boys any more. They've been free grazing for 20 years and it's all about to come to a screeching halt and they don't know what to do now that they've been fenced in.
They should do like me. Buy a saloon. Stay warm and dry in the winter--cool in the summer. Got me some dancin girls too.

Did anyone think about in the beginning there were only one champion and for the longest time only four in football then they went to five, then they added wild card, then they went to having 32 teams from each class make the playoffs. I wonder how many people then thought how things were becoming watered down? Oh no, instead the consensus was how great it is for all these school and kids getting to experience the playoffs who otherwise never would. Wow, how many of those same who complain things have gone to far. I agree but not for the same reason, but because for too long people put blinders on and still wear them today.

As opposed to nothing. Everyone has their opinion. No harm in that
Bottom line is the state and its schools have changed. Times have changed. The archaic way that the LHSAA has ran its association has now changed as well. Oh, I know, some of the "old timers" dont like it, but they didnt like Japanese cars, interratial marriage, desegregation, and many other things as well. Change happens.
Do I think this is the end all be all way to solve the issue of the obvious unequality amongst our schools..............nah. Nothing is ever equal. Sometimes we have conservative political approaches, sometimes liberal. I think both swings of the pendulum serve their purpose. The pendulum has swung in a manner of late as concerned with the LHSAA that is unpalatable to some, while others like it. Thats understandable. Will this be the final word............nah, I would think not. All of this will most likely be decided in court at some point. But, then all that will lead to is the formation of ANOTHER association that better suits one side or the others needs.

When I said historically I was referring to the time we have had 5 football playing classes. That began in 1991, and by my judgement that means the playoffs are now watered down compared to the previous 20 years or so. The select playoffs are far worse than the publics, but they are both significantly watered down. If you are going to presume to give someone a history lesson, you need to get your facts straight first or you will continue to make yourself look foolish. Actually there was only one football state champion each year until 1928 when they added Class B and had 2 state champs. In 1937 they added Class AA and then there were 3 state champs. In 1954 they added Class AAA which made 4 state champs. In 1970 they changed the names of the 4 football playing classes to A, AA, AAA, and AAAA. The major reason for most of those changes was because of a growing population. The reason for the most recent changes is simply because the public schools think they deserve 5 state champs. Surprisingly you mentioned in your post " not that history matters", and you were right. That is why I can't understand why you even brought it up. You also mentioned that the classes should soon be " paired" (that should be pared) down to 6 or 7 classes. Until they get to 5 classes the playoffs will still be watered down. The way it is structured now there should only be 3 non-selects and 2 selects. While I am educating you, I might as well let you know that you left a couple of things out of your pearls of wisdom. I have corrected that for you below. The earth is flat and the center of the universe. Humans cant run a 4 minute mile. George Washington had wooden teeth. Cholesterol in eggs is bad for the heart LHSAA is handing out participation trophiesPublic and Private schools are playing by different rules Private schools are recruiting

This is about people belittling their accomplishments by saying they got "participation trophies". Football is football to me. You learn lessons there by winning and losing. And respecting kids and communities they represent is part of it, dont you think?

I said not one thing incorrectly. You misquoted your way into a post that repeats the facts. Things have changed. Now, for lesson two.....lets begin. 1) Your post is conjecture. Mine is fact. 2) Classification based on enrollment alone WAS the norm in most states, that has changed. Changed here also a few years back. Did you get the memo? 3) Contstant whining from the Select sector wont change the facts. 4) If enrollment alone is the ONLY reason for classification, tell that to the NCAA. You see, when the few, take advantage of the spirit of the rules in order to manipulate the many, well...................HISTORY has shown the many will eventually rise up. Considered this a rebellion. Actually, consider this a changing of the gaurd, so to speak. Once again, tell me who received these "Participation Trophies". Be specific. Lets here the mighty Oz opinion...........lol

Winning the championship isn't the lesson. If it is, most of you should find something else to do.

When you sober up, come back and maybe we can talk. You talk about memos, rebellions, and the changing of the guard, and you even managed to work in a reference to the NCAA. I can't fathom why you think any of it is relevant to the discussion of watered down playoffs. As far as the " participation trophies", I have never even used that term. I was making the point that the playoffs are watered down. Surely you don't need for me to explain it to you again.

If you havent seen the term participation trophies, then you really need to read a little closer. As for "watered down", if your reference is towards the 1st round, well, if its watered down, those teams are easily dismissed. Same applies to Select and Non Select. Watered down as a rallying cry for allowing Select schools to win by 60 in the first round vs Non select schools, kinda is hypocrytical. The playoffs will be adjusted in short order. Formulation needs to begin on the next reason Select Schools can rally behind. You see, I have been there, done that, got the Tshirt. What is and will continue to happen, is the "luster" of the select schools will erode to the point they will return to attracting only the kids who actually need, want, can afford, and should attend a private school. Transfer for Athletic purposed is STRICTLY forbidden by the very organization that the Select crowd is railing against. Since integrity is not enforceable, well, the game has changed. Now, recruit, deny, whatever you want..............but play each other. Buh-bye
