The Lake Charles American Press has reported that McNeese State head coach Sterlin Gilbert has accepted the offensive coordinator position at Syracuse.
This comes just weeks after the NCAA declared McNeese post season ineligible for the 2020 season due to a team academic violation.

Not looking good in Lake Charles. After all this mess, it will take many years to catch up to Southeastern and Nicholls.

Not looking good in Lake Charles. After all this mess, it will take many years to catch up to Southeastern and Nicholls. The biggest issue isn't losing Gilbert, its that Gilbert cleaned house and fired every coach with local ties from his staff before he left. Now we have to attempt to draw college level coaches to Southwest Louisiana for pay that isn't much better than the prep level. Who can blame them with they jump for a better opportunity, especially when they have no ties to the area? On top of that, the amount of local kids signed has nose dived, which has affected attendance and money. Couple that with the academic issues and post season ban from the Guidry era and we have dug a giant hole with no ladder in sight.

McNeese has hired former UTSA head coach Frank Wilson Good hire but if he wins at McNeese he'll be gone real quick.

McNeese has hired former UTSA head coach Frank Wilson He has his work cutout. Looks like the AD and the Gilbert hire put them back a few years. Getting rid of every single person with McNeese ties and pride was a huge mistake.

Getting rid of every single person with McNeese ties and pride was a huge mistake. Over the last two years McNeese has signed ONE player from Southwest Louisiana. I know that the area isn't necessarily a recruiting hotbed, but if you can't or refuse to recruit locally, you will not have success at school like McNeese.
