How does this happen? Schools are right next to each other, and yet these kids are eligible THIS year? I understand why they did it, because their travel ball coach got the head coaching job at JH, just doesn't seem fair.
I really thought if you moved in the same parish you had to sit a year. You know ALL 6 didn't have bonafide moves to the other school.

That will teach the select schools that they cannot just recruit 6 players from a public school and get away with it.

Wait, only 3 replies? Yea, because nobody cares about one single sport outside of football. If this was a football thread, I'd probably have to lock it by now.

They are eligible because Jackson parish is under a desegregation order. The LHSAA allows transfers under a deseg order.

ya know if they CONSOLIDATED none of this would be an issue... seriously why do yall need small schools with 100 kids? Yeah, Jackson Parish is definitely small enough to have one Public High School. The administration probably doesn't want to consolidate just yet because it would likely require a brand new school to be built. I don't know how many kids J-Hodge is equipped to accommodate, but adding the kids from Quitman and Weston brings in over 300 new kids that need parking spots, lockers, desks to sit in, textbooks, etc. J-Hodge currently has about 240 kids, so if they consolidated that would bring the total to over 500 kids. Smaller Parishes like Jackson don't exactly have the money to upgrade their largest school, or much less build a new school, to provide for all these kids. If they ever get the chance, they should definitely consider consolidating. It would help the parish and kids greatly.

I'm conflicted. Part of me is happy that these poor kids have the opportunity to flee the racial strife that apparently affects their former school and move to the bastion of desegregation that is JH. The other part is sad that these children couldn't move to someplace like the DR or Venenzuela where they could use their baseball skills to REALLY bring attention to racial injustice around the world.

These kids are in a no-win situation now. JH was 4-19 last year, if they win this year people will complain that they cheated...because from the outside it sure looks like they are breaking the rules.

The coach just started working at JH 3 years ago. They decided on their on to transfer. Look up the rule on going from a school where you are in the majority race to a school where you are in the minority race. That's how they are eligible.

That seems to say they are ineligible, and would have to sit out a year. Has the LHSAA made a ruling on this? I sure hope for JH's sake they asked for a ruling on this.
