...and remaining winter championships have all been cancelled, per LHSAA. District superintendents around the state have also been asking Governor Edwards to keep schools closed for the remainder of this school year.

It sucks for the high school seniors this year for sure...no finishing spring athletics, no spring awards, no graduation ceremony, no last day of school, etc.

This all on the Superintendents and not the LHSAA. They want everything shut down and nobody on campus. Why not do like other states that are being creative and plan on finishing these sports in the summer? Baseball/softball players will now go to their travel teams and play during the summer. Track will go to their clubs if available and compete during the summer. The Superintendents robbed the seniors of their last chance at these sports.

I hate to admit this and I’m sure I am in the minority in this but I think it’s a good decision. The kids aren’t going to their travel teams because travel tournaments are shut down. We have to look at this as a whole. If they were to begin playing you would have a lot of parents, who are currently laid off, traveling to watch their kids and spending money that they may not have for gas and food. How would we feel if someone got sick at one of the sporting events? This sucks for the kids and I hate it for them. But what it is that every coach tells an athlete “you never know when your last game will be”. Sports teaches character and it teaches you how to handle adversity and that’s what this is. Shut it down now to help alleviate this and hope and pray they return to School in August and all goes back to normal.

Their entire thought process was based on these models that have been horribly inaccurate. Projected deaths went from 2.5 million to 60,000 in a few weeks. Nothing was ever shut down for viruses that were much more deadly than this one has shown to be.

Nothing was ever shut down for viruses that were much more deadly than this one has shown to be. Those projections have diminished because of people staying home and not interacting in groups (although some still seem to not get it). The more people heed the directives, the sooner all of this will end. As much as I hate it for the athletes involved (including my own kids), it’s the correct decision. We need to make sure that this is over and done with before it’s time for school to start again. Sports are great, but kids being able to attend school is much more important.

Is what it is but there was no need to make the decision now. Should have played by ear and saw where our state was 10/20 Days from now regarding the virus. I compare it to the schools shutting down for three or four days a couple years ago for a snow storm that never came. This virus isn’t going to be over and done with until A vaccine or proven treatment is available. That could be years possibly. We going to shut the world down next winter when it returns?
