On March 3rd, I smoked my last cigarette.
I started sneaking around smoking when I was in my early teens. From there it progressed. Once I was on my own (grown), I did not slow down.
About 6-7 years ago, I started making my own cigarettes. This gave me a way around the excessive cigarette taxes and it gave me control over what I would or would not smoke. Making my own smokes brought my price per pack down to about $1.65 on the average. I probably could have done it cheaper, but I'm a bit of a snob with certain things and smoking was not an exception.
Everything about smoking became my life. I planned trips around it (making smokes) I planned family time around it. I collected cigarette machines. I have a ton of lighters. I even went a little over the top to control my breathing when SCUBA diving to compensate for my smoking.
I havent had any health related issues thus far. I just got sick of everything being about making cigarettes or smoking. My wife quit several years and has never said a word about me continuing to smoke. The kids finally quit saying stuff about it. I guess I just got tired of life revolving around my smoking habit.
Keep in mind, this was not a few smokes a day habit. This was a minimum 2 pack a day habit for the last several years. And it things got stressful, it went up to 3 packs a day.
So, if you're smoking and thinking of quitting, here's my deal.
I'm 42 and have smoked for well over half my life. Smoked a lot.
I ran out and that was it.
For a few days, I smoked a pipe a few times a day.
I moved to an E-cigarette. I take a pull on that a few times a day or when I really start wanting a cigarette.
I had somebody tell me the other day that if I use an E-cigarette then I haven't quit. I asked if he'd ever smoked and I got a "no". He just doesnt understand, so I let it slide.
I'm currently slowing down on the E-cigs because I don't just want to not smoke, I want to be off of nicotine as well.
So if you're thinking of quitting or know someone who is, it can be done. I LOVE smoking. I love everything about it. But it's time to put it down and move on without tobacco.
So that's what I've been up to.
