I thought we had made it past the argument to switch the Fall and Spring seasons. However, more rumblings coming up this week about LHSAA kicking that idea around. President of the LHSCA sent out a memo to Fall Head Coaches recently saying they don't have plans to do that "at this time". That certainly doesn't sound like the idea has been squashed. IMO, would be absolutely awful for baseball. Thoughts?

I think that way for a few reasons. Number one, these kids have been in throwing programs since January. Most if not all coaches had their players on programs throughout the pandemic to prepare for a season re-start and then, eventually, to prepare for summer baseball. Then most played an entire summer season, be it in metro leagues or through tournament ball. Now, if the seasons flip, they'll be continuing to throw for an entire calendar year. These kids shouldn't be picking up a baseball again until October/November, much less playing their full season. Second, and perhaps more importantly, if they make the decision to flip the seasons, and then there is ANOTHER spike that causes a stay at home order and a lockdown of the state, baseball will lose a second season and football will happily play in the Spring and have missed nothing all along. I want what's best for everyone. However, you have to take into account what happened to these Spring sport athletes last season. The only possibility would be if you said OK, we're flipping the seasons. Then, if baseball is cancelled before they finish, football in the Spring is actually the one that gets cancelled and the baseball season is then pushed back to Spring. That's about the only way.

I enjoy all high school sport but I love baseball. I follow it closer than any other sport. I was originally against this idea but as more time passes with everything in limbo I'm starting to warm up to the idea of flipping the seasons. If not I see the potential for the entire year to be a wash and for this years seniors to miss two seasons of spring sports and their last year of football.
I think you could start baseball mid October to early November and play into Christmas break. Try to get in as many out of district games as possible. If the virus has another surge, shut the season down. Plan on football beginning end of January- early February. Play at least an 8 games season. Full playoffs. Bring back baseball in late April early May, play a couple weeks of out of district games, start district and finish the season in June.
I know there would be conflicts and overlaps with the winter sports, but either the kids try to do both or they have to choose.
At least do something, instead of just sitting around waiting.

Kids should never have to choose which sport they want to play. I hate it when I hear coaches make kids choose. Let them be kids. Why can’t we move basketball up a few weeks so it ends around late February Start football practices a few weeks before it ends and just let the basketball kids transition over like they do from basketball to baseball. Once football is close to ending begin baseball practice and let them play throughout the summer. Who cares if the season ends after graduation, most teams play a month of summer ball anyway. Is this a perfect plan, no. But let’s be honest a perfect plan will never happen this year. If it’s truly about the kids then find a way to make it work. Don’t worry about any extra work you may have to do. Just make it happen.

If it came down to it, having to choose between which sport you are going to play or not playing at all, i think 100% of kids would choose getting to play the one. I'm all for extending baseball and softball throughout next summer, but based off this summer I don't think the LHSAA is going to do that.

Injuries! Just look at MLB right now. Look at the number of injuries, especially pitchers, due to the lack of spring training before the season.

That plan is by far the most outrageous thing I’ve ever heard. Kids will be getting injured left and right. Small schools won’t be able to field teams in some sports because the kids will either be injured or burnt out.
