You guys are just a bunch of old heads who stuck in the past. Its easy to on a couch and control life from a remote. Try seeing life from outside the box. And if any of these teams you name win with the veer it will be a miracle. Didnt la tech beat navy recently. Acadiana past coach even was like this old veer not working hell let me retire. Football is so much of a science now days you all dont understand. Get with the the times or get left behind. Cant beat them out of state teams hell join them! Yep...troll. And not even a good one. A good troll could at least try to address the counterpoints. Not sure continuing a discussion with someone who clearly doesn't understand football above a novice level is worth it. Good day. I'll show you my highlight tapes show me yours. I can show you my football and basketball experience show yours! Give me your facebook name I'll dm you just to shut you up! My career vs yours lets go!

I’m trying not to be rude, but the argument that you MUST adopt the pass-happy spread schemes to be successful is crazy and stupid. Curtis has been running the Veer offense since the 70’s and dominating with it. Acadiana’s coach retired because he was old and tired. The new coach is sticking with the Veer because it works.
Arguing that so and so lost to so and so because their offense is the Option is stupid as well. Remember when Ga Tech was in the top 10 when they had Calvin Johnson? Navy beat Notre Dame recently as well. Army has been beating up on spread teams with Ahmad Bradshaw at QB. Talent goes through cycles with option teams, especially non-power 5 teams. Sorry, but football in real life is different from video games.

Think about the when the Georgia boys beat JC how did the veer work against them. Hell even the year before that. Of they beat wm with they're a Louisiana team with the same mentality you guys have. It works so im going to stick with it. Keep things the same in life players will never progress or reach full potential. I hope WM goes back to option just so they bore the hell out of everyone. Wont be before acadiana switch that veer they just got to keep fan base happy. He'll eventually put a spread out there.

I didn’t bring up the 70’s to reminisce about the glory days...I said they’ve been running the same offense since then with tremendous success. You really are trolling at this point, son. The offensive scheme doesn’t automatically determine success. If anything, I’d argue an old school Veer team has the advantage these days because of the fact everyone adopted the spread. No one teaches triple option responsibility until the week they play a triple option team. Kind of a disadvantage with impatient high schoolers, unless you have freak athletes all over your front 6 or 7. And FYI, Grayson runs the flexbone to go along with their spread.

Along with the spread key word spread. And that hoovet game was 12 freaking years ago dude! 12 years ago you know how much the world has changed in over a decade. That's 3 presidents ago wtf. And people always want to holla trolling when someone lays out facts of teams scoring more and athletes being more successful in a spread offense. Everything im writing is facts. Statically speaking Analytics the spread is better. Athletes are much smarter stronger etc. The veer just for mismatches and controlling the tempo.

Still not trying to address meaningful counterpoints, but rather makes outlandish challenges. And challenges so meaningless to the discussion that it highlights a lack of logic and understanding of the principles of the game that undermines your argument. I am fairly certain anyone on this board's highlight film pales in comparison to JaMarcus Russell, yet I would feel confident questioning his understanding of much of the game. I am fairly certain that Bill Belichik's highlight film pales in comparison to most. I am fairly certain that Nick Saban's highlight film pales in comparison to almost anyone he coached at Cleveland, Michigan State, LSU, Miami and Bama. What does that have to do with anything other than signaling the argument of a troll? For the record, I spent over 20 years coaching football from jr high, high school, and Div 1AA college levels. But hey, I am sure you have a great career...how that applies to anything in this discussion is meaningless. You have chosen the tried and true troll tactic of adopting a logically false and inaccurate position (the sky is green) and are just sticking your guns to it.

First off, all offenses are about mismatches and controlling tempo.
Second, the Hoover game is relevant to this discussion because it was played during the height of the Mike Leach Air Raid popularity, which was the offense the Bucs ran when they played J.C. and got curb stomped on MTV. Hoover had no answer for the Veer, but their offense was shut down.
Third, athletes in the spread are actually not as smart as their non-spread counterparts. With the exception of the QB reading the defense, the players’ assignments are pretty straight forward in the modern spread. The hierarchy for difficulty goes: Prostyle > Triple Option > Misdirection > Pure Spread. I’ve played in all schemes and the easiest to learn and execute was the Air Raid. But, if the defense has better athletes than you...you lose.

Just one more crazy little thing: Oklahoma was dominating college football with the Wishbone during the height of the Run and Shoot era of the 80’s, while Nebraska dominated during the West Coast era in the 90’s. USC dominated during the Air Raid era of the 00’s and Alabama is dominating the era of the RPO. None of these dynasties are passing spread teams. So arguing the spread is the “end all, be all” is pointless. Offensive philosophies go through cycles.

Another one I forgot about - De La Salle (CA) own the longest winning streak in football history (all levels), and guess what offense they run.......the Veer.

How do we wish to measure what is "best" by?
NFL? College? High School?
Who here believes honestly that any NFL team could run a wishbone, veer, or triple option and win a super bowl?
None of you do.
Now, in College and High School? Well, yes of course you could. But ask yourself why this is so and you will have your answer. It isnt difficult.

College is a different game and pro is different from college and high school.

You do realize that the rules are different between those levels of football, and that certainly affects things. Rules currently reward the forward pass in the NFL more than in the other two levels. I would agree though, that because of the differences between size and speed, particularly regarding the defensive front 7, it would be tough to successfully run an undercenter option based attack 17 weeks.

I'm not sure what your getting at because I haven't read much of this thread but it seems obvious that factors such as talent disparity make comparing schemes from different levels is apples to oranges.

I am probably just feeding a troll whose football experience is limited to Madden and TV pundits, and deductive reasoning skills were forged by "Blues Clues" but you do realize that football schemes are not like technology. "New" is not inherently better. The nation's HS football scoring record is held by a team that ran the foot to foot, "football in a phonebooth" double wing offense. What exactly did you google regarding GT and the academies? While it is irrelevant to the discussion of schemes, all 4 have over .500 record as institutions. Also, as GUNSLINGER pointed out, the current offensive trends of zone read, and RPO (which continue to befuddle TV announces who fail to recognize what is happening) are option based. Just in a different direction. Why exactly do you think a google search would provide accurate and definitive information regarding H Backs and Fullbacks when both terms are and positions are going to be used differently by different coaches in different schemes? I would say that having a larger sized player whose role is to insert somewhere along the line (creating an extra gap) and catching shorter/mid range passes primarily between the numbers or in the flats is basically the same position. Essentially an H back is simply a player who is aligning at the snap in a location that the FB could be after taking a few steps post snap. Was told WM is headed back to the triple option this year. Not sure whether this is temporary situational formations, but sounded as if it will be used a lot as a staple for the season. Guess that spread really isnt working as they planned. Kahmann, as the good movie says, GET OUT. Go find a place to use your skillset. Head back to Kansas if you must. A dead blame shame the amount of money and the facilities out there and they cant take advantage of his skills. Was told turmoil is real. No matter how it is sliced here. Lot of upset folk over Garvin. logic, I'm surprised all the WM faithful didn't put up a petition to have you booted off the board. I've been saying this for several years, and been ridiculously labeled a "hater", which is hilarious. WM does NOT have the coaches to run a spread offense. They are learning on the job and it has negatively affected the team and cost several players with a lot of potential from even having a high school career. The do NOT have anyone there that can develop a QB and they have no one that can run an offense other than the veer. They have a very good staff when it comes to the veer (that's a compliment for all the WM fans who cannot comprehend that). What's even worse, their 6-9th grade teams are still running the veer. Yes, the 9th grade team runs the veer, and then they expect their players to show up and magically perform in a completely different offense in the 10th grade. That's insane. Garvin "leaving" was a good start, but instead of making a good hire, they moved a career running back coach to QB coach. They are worse off now than ever, UNLESS of course, they are just gonna run the ball - which is exactly what they are going to do. They had one of the best receivers in the state playing QB the last two years, when they had a good senior the year before, and Kahman last year sitting to the sidelines? And it cost them both years. (There had to be politics in that decision, some daddy or granddaddy ball). There's nothing wrong with the veer or triple option, but when you are running ball control offense, and your opponent can score in a matter of seconds, you are crippled from the start. WM has never been successful at stopping good passing teams.

WM has never been successful at stopping good passing teams. . I mean I don't care what system you run if the other team is scoring in a matter of seconds when they get it you are in trouble. The talent of their players plays a bigger factor in that team scoring like that than what system they run. If you don't have that kind of talent then simply running a similar system won't duplicate their results. I would argue when playing a team with that kind of offense the best way to counter that is ball control and keeping it out of their hands. I mean if you have elite speed and athleticism for your level then yes a spread or pass heavy system is great. We seem to be ignoring the fact that high school football is the level where you have the biggest talent disparity from team to team. If you are gonna be going up against teams with far more speed and athleticism than playing into their strength might not. R the best route. I don't care if you have the best spread coach on any level. Do you think WM can out spread Landry walker and some of the other teams with tons of team speed? I would think the veer or some type of system would be the rebels best option to counter the speed difference. I mean do you think a certain system is best for all teams no matter the physical strengths and weakness of each team?

I don't know anything about West Monroe's offense in this "modern" era but I can tell you this. Many years ago (seems like yesterday to me) back in the days of the ECA-WM rivalry the Rebels could run the triple option right down your throat. I don't know how many times I watched Evangel stop their fullback, cover the pitch man and then look up and see the QB running free up the field. And seems like their QB's were always pretty fast. Hard to stop back then. Evangel stopped it about as good as anybody could.

Ok, just so YOU ALL know this is Shad Green. I had a buddy tell me last night I was referred to on this site. Hiding behind a fake name really isn't my way. If you know me, you know this. Anyway, until tonight, I haven't posted, or influenced one post one here. I just thought I would come on here to check out what a buddy told me. I just had a child graduate this program and school. BTW, he is going to college and making money off of his many scholarships. Also, I absolutely have a sopre playing that is extremely happy. I haven't said or posted one thing negative in 5 years. Tonight, is my only post, and there won't be another one. I will be getting off after this. But, to prove I am a man,my number is (318)381-6600. Now I am done!
