The only reason I put "yet to be announced" is because the only reason we know about the basketball coach leaving Menard for Northwood is because he posted about it on Facebook

Really curious to hear who took the football job though. Figured someone would have heard something by now.

Guess they decided not to name the new football coach yet...

Could it have been so underwhelming that nobody even thought to post it?

Could it have been so underwhelming that nobody even thought to post it? My understanding was that they would present the FB and basketball coach yesterday. KALB had a lot to say about the hoops coach but said nothing about a football coach. Either they dropped the ball or they didnt say anything about a new FB coach

The school’s Facebook page doesn’t mention anything about a football coach either. If I had to guess I’d say one of a couple things:
1) They made a big hire with football and didn’t want the two announcements stealing thunder from each other.
2) The football “hire” didn’t actually accept the job yet.
3) Or like someone said, the hire is so lackluster that they’re trying to slip it under the radar.

I was told that the new coach accepted the job on Friday, but resigned on Monday. This caused the announcement not to be made.

To my knowledge there isn't any big huge people apply for it. Barely any that have been head coaches. You have to think about who has been in Vernon and Grant parishes for actual decent coaches. Chad Harkins would be a good hire. You probably have some disgruntled Pineville high coaches who lost their jobs due to Bell coming in and having expectations that applied as well, but those guys certainly don't need the job. Andy Boone is making it know he wants out of Avoyelles throwing his name in every hat he can. That would be an interesting hire

I am pretty sure that no current head coaches applied. I heard that an assistant from Marksville has also applied. Not sure what the hold up may be .

One of my good friend’s son is a coordinator at a school in Shreveport and he talked about applying. Not sure if he did or not. Based on what I’ve read on here about the job and school I’m hoping he didn’t.

He has a decent thing going over there for Avoyelles. I know there is a more than likely chance they move up to 3A next year.

I can answer that. I don’t want out. We just announced a new principal and I am excited to work for her. We are just finishing up on a new 3000 sq foot weight room. And we will have our best team at Avoyelles in 10 years.
And I was offered the northwood Lena job 3 weeks ago. I turned it and the 10k raise down.
Also Avoyelles enrollment is dropping steadily. We will be at around 360 in October. Well below 3A cut off.

I was told that Northwood had an agreement in place with a head coach from another school in Central Louisiana, but between the time the agreement was reached and the announcement could be made, his current school made a counter-offer that he accepted and decided to stay at his current school. I don't know where that leaves Northwood moving forward, but in my 15 years in Cenla, nobody not named Tom O'Kelly has come close to winning there.

I'm wondering if they will wait until they have a new principal and reopen the job for interviews. It doesn't look like they want to settle on any of the other candidates.

We are at 380 right now. We have lost about 20 students a year for the last 3 years. To Avoyelles charter and now Red river charter. I expect us to be around 360 this year. Mr mike is returning to the classroom. Wants to go back to teaching.

Bruh! Helen Keller, meet Ray Charles. If he got the job, makes you wonder who DIDNT get the job and who the other applicants were. Judging by who turned the job down already before they settled, they were probably looking for someone with HC experience. And judging from the reactions so far…they should have hired one of the other guys looking for their first time job.

Bruh! Helen Keller, meet Ray Charles. does this guy have any previous coaching experience? About 4 or 5 years between Leesville and Natchitoches Central all after the Split. And still only managed to make the playoffs one time and had a losing season that year too. Like another poster stated it's hard to know who got the worst end of this hire Moore or the school.

You show me a bad football team, I'll show you a bad administrator. I don’t see your point about a principal and a bad football team. So every winning football program has a principal who is ... what? Principals coach, practice plan, recruit? What do principals do to win ballgames? I am confused. Most principals are worried about a lot more than just football. Sounds like an excuse to me.

This includes budget, fundraising, helping with grades/discipline, telling parents to go f themselves when they have a stupid complaint because their child isn’t playing, helping make sure all players have athletics, etc. A principal and coach are like a marriage. If they support each other then everyone is successful. If one of them doesn’t support the other the program will fail.

They have to have a work ethic. They have to make some deposits before they can withdraw. When a coach is fired all you ever hear is his side of it, the principal can’t say much if anything because of personnel rules. In smaller schools, budget and fundraising is not like WM when the boosters pay for a lot of things. Funds are often limited and I never knew a principal who didn’t want the school football program to be successful. Honestly, some coaches need to be fired just like some principals do.
