Just curious, splitters seem to dodge this question pretty regularly. Acadia has them still for transportation. Parents choose now where they want to send them. The receiving principals can accept or deny (sorry BigBo b) any student. I guessing 10% go to schools out of zone. The Crowley High posters probably have a more accurate guess.

Rapides Parish is open enrollment, you can choose to go to any high school you want to. That school is considered your school of choice and are immediately eligible to participate in sports, if you transfer after your Freshman year you will sit out for 1 year. Just like transferring to a Private School. The Parish won't supply transportation, that is the parents job to get them to school. The school will only accept you if there is room for you, so I guess that means accept or deny a student to enroll.

(b) An amount equal to the cost of debt service for the school such student attends for the school year in which such student is admitted divided by the number of students attending such school;
(2) Less all monies received by the admitting school system through the minimum foundation program formula because of the attendance of such students.

But thanks for pointing out that it is legal for public schools to accept out of parish students just like private schools. Not as simple for a public school as it is for private schools. Kid from any place in Louisiana can go to any private school their parents want to send them. As I have said tax dollars involved, both parishes have to agree, not school, parish school board have mile limits and so on. OUT OF PARISH BUT A ESTABLISHED ATTENDANCE ZONE BY BOTH PARISHES. All dealing with school board not school. Those parents are just lucky to have the option of two schools to choose from as their kids first school of choice.

Just as simple of a deal as private parents. Might be a little work for someone in the school board. So we agree that anyone, public and private can cross parish lines. But what is your take on a parish like Acadia that the principal can accept or deny out of zone enrollment? This question is never answered by any of you splitters.

No we do not agree that anyone can cross parish lines for public shools. I have looked at two different parishes and they both had the same verbiage in their policy of non-resident students. Principals have nothing to do with it. ADMISSION OF NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS The Acadia Parish School Board may, by mutual agreement, provide for the admission to any school of pupil(s) residing in an adjoining city, parish, or other local School Board district, and for transfer of funds or other payments by one Board to another on account of such attendance. STUDENTS RESIDING NOT MORE THAN ONE MILE FROM SCHOOL If not specifically contrary to the provisions of a valid and applicable court order, the School Board shall admit and assign a student to attend any public school requested by a parent or other person responsible for the student's school attendance when the requested school has space available, suitable grade levels, and the child resides not more than one mile from such school. The one-mile distance shall be measured by the distance to be traveled on public streets or highways, or by the boundary of a subdivision. Such assignment shall apply regardless of parish boundaries. The School Board, however, shall have final authority and responsibility for the assignment, transfer, and continued attendance of students in schools within the Board's jurisdiction. r deny out of zone enrollment? This question is never answered by any of you splitters.

I would have to research. What I saw in acadia parish they do have attendance zones. If they violate for sports they should be turned in.
I will look into Rapides, but give me other parishes that have open attendance zones.
What sports and schools are rapides parish schools dominate in, semifinals, finals every year?

Only thing I can say about Rapides I looked at school ratings. Read school board policy on school of choice. This policy does not deal with sports. Not going to get in to deep with this but understand no zone, they call the parish a district.

traditional zones don't exist for schools in Orleans, as they're all charter schools... schools get all their kids randomly through OneApp...

Agh, so it is RESULTS that define the problem and not ability to bring in whatever kids you want. In Rapides, any kid can go to any school and be eligible if they start in 9th grade. Every school is making their pitch for all the kids, but because they aren't dominant it is Ok? Then why isn't it ok to move schools based on succes rather than enrollment?

No Rapides Parish usually doesn't have a dominate team except at ASH "non-select", weightlifting just about every year and ASH won 5A softball this year. I'm not sure if it should matter if they dominate in any sport. Don't forget Menard "select" is also in Rapides Parish and doesn't dominate a lot of sports either.

I know that Livingston, Tangipahoa, St. Tammany, and Washington Parishes all still have very strict zones for each public school. The only public schools that don't technically have their own zone are Jewel Sumner and Hammond. However, they still are only allowed to accept kids from Tangipahoa Parish.
Otherwise, you physically have to live in the zone of a school to go to that school.

The great majority of LEA's (Local Education Authorities), have assigned zones for their students and do not allow the crossing of parish lines. Some do. This is a rarity and is insignificance. ALL private schools can take kid from ANYWHERE in the NATION. Big difference. Anyways, buh bye. Create your league and go play elsewhere please.

No issues they gain nothing from it and see no issues. Unlike some small private schools with 5 middle schools able to get kids from many parishes. Happy now. If you would READ you would have seen why they do that it is called first choice and not first choice for sports. Use the internet for more than showing how low your IQ is.

Admissions preference if given in the following order: ◦First:Brothers and sisters of Catholic families presently attending the school. ◦Second:Catholic families from St. Anthony Parish (active parishioners). ◦Third:Catholic families of St. Thomas More Parish (active parishioners). ◦Fourth:All other Catholic families. ◦Fifth:Brothers and sisters of Non-Catholic families presently attending the school. ◦Sixth:Open to anyone who can meet the academic and Christian standards of the school.
