When was it a disaster? I remember them barely getting by class 1A SU Lab in 2006 or 2007 in a game they should've lost. 2005 is when they played. 23-12 doesn't really qualify as "barely getting by" or a "game they should have lost". The only thing negative about that win is that SLab was terrible that year and Evangel should have hung 30 or more on them like they did everyone else (practically) in 1A. Any time a team doubles your score, they didn't "barely get by". A terrible team that had 4 or 5 players go on to play in the NFL? Ok cool.

Agreed I just read the article and I agree with him. In fact, he is proposing 2 things I have vigorously supported on this site-- Indiana plan and a reformed governance of LHSAA. That doesn't mean just fire Bonine. It means restructuring, like I proposed on the other thread ( I think on the non- sports board). In summary: The eag High School Athletic Organization Proposal eHSAO Organizational structure: Exec Director -- communicator and figurehead. Does the nuts and bold meetings, administrative duties, etc. Exec Committee-- made up of equal number of coaches and principals. Terms of 3 years but the first group would have staggered terms of 1, 2, and 3 years so the whole crew isn't replaced at once. All policy is proposed and brought to the floor by this group, who has the fiduciary duty to look out for the best interest of the eHSAO and NOT their individual schools. I would start with this being a rotation and not an election ( each school eventually gets a turn), but would listen to opposing views on that. Would be done by regions and by public/private. 6 regions, 2 members from each, at least 4 of the 12 must represent tuition-paying schools. EC is the policy- making branch. Policy that attains a 75% vote in EC can be brought to members at large for approval vote. That way any policy crafted must be acceptable to coaches, principals, public, and private to at least a reasonable degree. The membership-- all dues-paying schools. Member schools submit any issues to the regional reps, and vote on policy issues brought to the floor by the EC. (You know, things like kicking eag the heck out of the organization!) Basic rule outline: 1) Play anywhere you attend school. Attendance zone issues are for school boards, not Athletic organizations. 2) Eligible at any school you start attending in grade 9 3) Sit a year if you change schools after grade 9 unless Bonafide Move 4) Bonafide move is greater than 50 miles and reason must be shown. Household must actually move. Committee in place to examine each of these critically. 5) Indiana plan metric for excessive success. 6) 2.5 GPA A 2.5 GPA requirement is assanine. Let's say an average student attempts an AP class and fails it, should he be ruled ineligible if the rest of his grades are not high enough? That would mean he was making Cs in the classes he didn't fail. That isn't a kid who should be attempting AP classes anyway. But, the greater point is we shouldn't have a kid with all mostly Ds and a couple of Cs playing. Like Btown says, students first and players second. All of these ideas are intended to stimulate discussion. I appreciate your point of view. I don't entirely agree, but I appreciate it. Let's not turn these into arguments.

Lab could have went up by 21-0 but a fumble at the goaline changed he whole game

I for one live the win factor rule it helps out every one it would take some years to balance out but how on Earth can you make in example Mamou play in 3A and they lost to Oberlin last year. While Oberlin had a great season they were not in a very strong district and quite frankly beat Mamou rather handily. This is the only way "everybody wins"

It was a disaster when they were forced to play in a 1A district with the likes of Ringgold and Cotton Valley who could barely field more than 20 players total. Agree 100% playing Evangel probably had nothing to do with that...

If there were 4 or 5 players hit the NFL from that class, they must have gotten a lot better in college or learned how to play as a team while they were in college. Because with a 5-6 record, they sure weren't playing as a team that year.

Lab could have went up by 21-0 but a fumble at the goaline changed he whole game I guess the power only went out for SLab and ECA got to keep the power, huh? SLab was 5-6 that year. NFL must have been desperate for players. Lab "could" have went up by 21-0 but they fumbled and the sleeping giant woke. So here's what reality was: ECA came into the game, against a team with a 5-5 record and took a nap. The 5-5 team got he jump on the napping Eagles. Evangel finally stepped it up and took care of business. Lab could have blown ECA out by 42-0, but they didn't. Lab could have went undefeated that season, but they didn't. I believe I listened to that one on the internet. the radio station in Shreveport carrying it had a webcast of it. The only ECA game I saw in person that year was the championship. I was living in Austin that year and came in to catch the championship games at Indy (since Katrina and all).

LOL at the NATIONAL Football League being desperate. That's a good one. Did that ECA team produce the same amount? What about in the 5 years prior to or after that?

Y'all stop arguing with these people. This so called "must read" article is bogus and every person agreeing with it is bogus too. The "dodge ball" mind frame (like the homie Indy calls it 😂) is an epidemic. You can't make a team play up because they have won a few championships in a row. That's retarded. And this split crap is even stupider. If anyone has an issue with their child competing against great opponents, they should enroll their child in a school that participates in the Mississippi Private School Association. This is the LHSAA. Proud football tradition. Well represented in the NFL and NCAA. This is not the place for whiners who cry out "let's make it fair." NEWSFLASH!!! It's fair because your kids put their pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else. No disrespect Goldburg, but this is getting out of hand!!!!

It's fair because your kids put their pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else. No disrespect Goldburg, but this is getting out of hand!!!! I've been a big fan of European Soccer and the promotion/relegation system they use. Basically the top two teams move up and the bottom move down. It's not seen as avoiding good team but more as it being an honor to get promoted. I've just always liked the way they run the leagues over there. So me liking his plan isn't me trying to kick Lab or anyone else out but instead just liking that style of play. In those systems it would be an honor to play 5A (or D1) ball as it would be the best of the best of the best. I also support anything that might get the association back together. In my opinion the split is the single most destructive thing to happen to high school athletics in Louisiana. Absolute embarrassment in the implementation and enforcement of the split . With that said, I don't believe Lab should have to play up. My reasoning is that if class A wasn't split then Lab's "advantage" would not seem so great (and I'm honestly not sure if Lab would have beaten Haynesville last year). Without the split Lab definitely would have been tested and I doubt Logansport would have been blown out. Class A had never had a problem and in reality never should have been split. Just so happens that the rest of the class A private schools aren't that strong when compared to the better public schools and Lab, at least the last two years. Thus it makes Lab's advantage look much worse. I also expect Lab's numbers and size to start evening out in a year or two as well. Also, if anyone has a problem with Lab in football then I do hope you have criticism for Lafayette Christian basketball which is almost a glorified basketball team playing in class A. Unlike Southern Lab, (which has some of the nicest fans/staff that you could ask for) that school doesn't exactly treat opponents with utmost respect (and I'm not talking about running up the score).

I stand by what I said, the team wasn't that good that year. If 5 players from that team went on to the NFL, that's great. Happy for them. In highschool, their 2005 team wasn't that good. I'm glad some Louisiana boys made it to the pro's and made a good life for themselves. In high school, I don't really judge success or failure on how many kids make it to the pro's because there's much that can happen between the 2. High school football is judged on your record and championships. in 2005, Lab had a crappy record and no championship. I don't know what ECA produced to the NFL from 2005. I don't really care for professional football. Once they leave ECA, I can't tell you much about many of them. They move on with their life and I keep supporting my school. Some of them come back around and the ones I know I talk to from time to time. That's about it. Again, I'm not judging the success of the team by the NFL. The success of the program, I judge by how many kids from the team got scholarships to college. Success of the team, record and championships. From there, not my concern. But since you did bring ECA into this, I would assume, since you mentioned it, that ECA did not put that many guys into the NFL from that season. Which is a real shame because Lab was bad that season. less than 50% win ratio and no championship. Too bad they didn't have the split back then, or y'all might could have gotten that championship, even with that terrible record. Then you could dance around talking about how many guys went pro from that team. You got your panties all twisted on this because Lab wasn't that good that year and they got bested by a better team. All I said was that if Lab should have won that game (as you suggested), they would have. I believe you said Lab should have gone up 21-0 or some nonsense. Lab never had 21 to go up 21. Hell, Lab didn't even score 13. But you want everyone to believe Lab should have won it and should have gone up 21-0 at some point to do it. then you blamed it on a power outage (that ECA had to deal with as well). Watch what I do here: First game of this season, ECA went to Allen Texas and got facerolled by a very good Allen team. ECA didn't play worth a crap. The personnel placement was off, the plays called were not what was needed, the defense got wore completely out because of a non productive offense. It was a terrible game and ECA lost. And Allen was better. That much better. ECA didn't lose because of some lights going out, or because it was hot, or because of a 3hr drive over, or because of not being at their field, or because of being awe'd at Allen's massive stadium (and it is very nice). It wasn't any of that. Allen came to play and ECA didn't. Just like in 2005 when ECA and Lab played. Lab came in 5-5 and ECA didn't take them seriously until late in the game. So late in the game, ECA woke up and started playing ball. And came back and won it 23-12. Imagine if they'd played 2nd half ball in the first half as well. Either way. I know you think I'm trying to trash talk Lab and I'm really not. I just disagree with your assessment that Lab should have won that game. Lab didn't win that game and was never going to win that game. Sometimes it happens. and it always sucks when your team is on the losing end.

In the the first half, ECA came out being cute running 4 and 5 WR sets. That Lab secondary featured Parade All American Chad Jones and Delvin Breaux of the New Orleans sAINTS. Breaux was hurt true enough but Lab had studs in the secondary. A 100% throwing offense wasn't going to beat Lab and going into halftime the score was closer than ECA anticipated. And ECA's QB was not impressive. So in the 2nd half ECA came out in a I-formation and proceeded to pound the ball right down our throats. There O-line was bigger a far more superior than our D-Line. They owned the line of scrimmage and ultimately cruised to a victory after a close start. That's my honest assessment of the game. Now I do believe Lab did have more NFL players on that team (6 by my count), but ECA was definitely the better team that night. So please stop going back and fourth about a game that wasn't played this decade.

That's all there is to it. Look at Lab's schedule from that year. It's filled with losses that shouldn't be there if Lab was all that. So Lab won the 1st half. Congrats on your first half win. The way football works is that it's 4 quarters and whichever team has the most points wins the game. I didn't need to see the game with my own eyes to hear it and know what happened. You keep wanting to decorate up that loss like somehow it was a fluke. Look at the records for both teams for the season. It wasn't no accident or chance that Lab lost that game. They were outplayed by a better team. It happens. ECA's first 3 games that season, they were outplayed by better teams. But if it helps you to sleep better at night thinking that Lab "should" have won that game, there ain't no helping you. Good day.
