I am relaying EXACTLY what the kid said. Nothing more. His words. I feel pretty sure he has an idea, as do most kids, if they are "good enough"
Cherry pie boys............you keep the ones you want, cull the others. We have to make cherry pie out of apples and oranges. Tastes good!!

Not a one, nor from any public school either. Not the point. Point is, inherent advantage. Just because a school sucks at using the advantage or geography dictates that as huge of an advantage doesnt exist, doesnt change the fact. This implies that the goal of schools is to win at athletics. There can be no other interpretation of saying that a school sucks at using a select student body. Is it your position that a school that can select athletes but does not do so is derelict in its duties as a a school, and is doing a bad job? And it most definitely is entirely the point. I'd say that it proves there is absolutely no INHERENT advantage. Do you know what inherent means? It means that the advantage cannot be helped, it will be universally present in all cases. It is ingrained, immovable. I believe that private schools have a POTENTIAL advantage. It is demonstrably inaccurate to say there is an inherent one. The inherent advantage of select enrollment is always there, always.

I hate to be insulting as I find it unproductive, but clearly you don't know what that statement means. If your statement were accurate, all select schools would be better than all non-selects.
You say being able to select is inherent advantage, then you say some schools don't pick correctly to use the advantage. That is the definition of a potential advantage- one that is brought into play or out of play by decisions you make.

Just because some school dont use said advantage well, doesnt mean it doesnt exist. Actually, it doesnt matter anyway. Point is, the advantage is always present..........the ability to deny enrollment. If it were used, EVEN ONCE, for academic, discipline, or athletic reasons, the advantage is present and used. Are you saying that there is one, JUST ONE, private school that has allowed every, single, applicant to enroll?

I'm saying that most private schools allow every single applicant to enroll that will pay tuition and has not been expelled from another school. (That expulsion criteria also is a factor at the public schools at least in my region.) Now, they may not stay very long. I know many kids who either opted or were asked to leave after a period of time. But being denied an opportunity to try? Nope, not common at all.
I am not aware of ANY situation where a parent arrived at a private school with a kid and a checkbook and were told he cannot enroll, call us back when he's 20 lbs heavier and drops 0.2 off his 40 time.
I'm not saying it never happens and I'm certainly not saying it cannot happen. Your experience may be different. Let's hear it - specifically.

The meeting of the principals is not until June 9th according to the Advocate. The late meeting is done to delay the establishment of the new organization. It will be very difficult to spin up for the coming year with only two months . If the vote fails and the split remains with no compromise, look for things to heat up this summer with mass exodus from the LHSAA. There will be gaping holes in all schedules in the next two years. Some schools will remain in the association of one final year due to logistics but look forward to a new dawn but it will be chaotic for a year or two. The LHSAA will have districts that are incomplete and many schools will have two or three bye weeks. I expect it to fail, there may even be some private school principals that vote to keep the split to insure the viability of the new Cooperative.

I think I heard on the news update at the top of the hour that the bill by Rep Talbot was heard on the floor today. Has anyone else heard this? I thought he had pulled the bill until the Principal's meet, which is June 8th I think.
