Last year I talked to someone involved with the program in Basile and they said the BHS Class of 2018 had around 40 or so students. They also said every class after that from 6-11 (current 7-12) had at least 70 kids, some with over 80. If each had 70 kids that would put Basile at around 280 in the high school not including any junior high kids playing in high school. Basile could cut it close but only time will tell. Basile better pray they stay in 1A because if they move up to 2A their district could be Kinder, Welsh, Lake Arthur, and Rosepine or Notre Dame, Catholic-NI, Lafayette Christian, and Opelousas Catholic. Number of kids playing football does not support those class numbers. No way they move up to 2A. There are 5A and 4A schools that can only get 30 something kids on the football field so out of 1,000 students. Do I think Basile will move up? Heck no. Do I think it is on the horizon? Possibly so

And Hathaway won't have that many

Why wouldn’t St Michael stay in 4A? Probably a better district, gate, travel etc. come playoffs they would get thrown in with 4A I’m thinking about the Baton Rouge 3a and 4a districts, probably a better chance to win the 4a district than 3a especially with Parkview likely going down to 3a 6-4a is St Michael, Lutcher, parkview, plaquemine, Tara, Woodlawn 6-3a is Baker, brusly, glen oaks, Madison prep, mentor ship, UHigh, West Feliciana More travel in 4a. Gates would be about the same. But should Parkview move to that district and Madison prep and brusly move up, 6-4a becomes 7 teams 6-3a 6 teams. Another thought. Why wouldn't UHigh just opt to play in 5A??? They obviously have visions of wanting to be in National Contention and are doing so by playing the likes of Glen Oaks and Mentorship. I would like to see them against Curtis and Evangel for a title

Avoyelles is under 400. Should move to 2A Hamilton Christian will have a football team next year. let’s not forget get that they are a select school and can recruit kids. plus they have a very good basketball team and probably wouldn’t want to drop to class B A move to B may not be a bad thing for the basketball program. Trade LCA, Southern Lab, and St. Mary's for Crescent City Christian, Episcopal of Acadiana, and Grace Christian? Hamilton would run Division 5 in boys basketball if they moved down IMO. I do think HCS will play football again next season as well just relaying the gvine into here

Possibly so Ok, but I am from Basile if they had a 2A school population they would have 60 to 80 kids playing football. But they don't and never will because they do not have baseball or softball. If they put those sports in the school population would explode just like Elton would.

If baseball/softball would help those schools then they should get those programs and catch up with times. Kids should have the option to play more sports and if your school does not offer those sports then they have the right to go where they can play baseball. Kinder does get kids from other areas bc of baseball but if a kid grows up playing youth baseball then they should go to a school that offers that sport. Schools need to catch up with times and offer more to attract kids and family's

so with the new school opening in Lafayette does West Monroe become the largest public high school in the state? Sulpher might take that crown. The population is booming big time on that part of the state. They could build a new school and it would probably have 5a numbers from the jump.

Already large school and many from Texas loving back across the border

If they put those sports in the school population would explode just like Elton would. Where would this population explosion come from? Acadia parish, Basile is in two parishes. There is part of Acadia parish that parents have a choice of three schools, Basile, Eunice and Iota. Eunice and Iota have baseball and softball. Then you go north east and you have those kids that go to St. Eds.

Correct, Elton is on the parish line of Allen parish. A road seperates the elementary school from Allen Parish. Those kids that live 3 miles from Elton could change their choice of school from Kinder to Elton.

I made a spreadsheet of all the known numbers every reclass since 2008, and the two biggest movers since then are Chalmette and Holy Cross... don't know how big HC will get on their new campus, and they're all boys, but they dropped briefly to 3A at one point. I believe we'll be near 2,000 kids this time, and we've gained in every reclassification since 2004, when we were 3A.

All 3 of the 5A schools will be some of the biggest in the state with Dutchtown leading the way. A 4th high school will be built in the near future over here

In all years of being involved with Elton and Basile I have never seen a athlete go from Basile to Elton or Elton to Basile.
