So neither Rayville or Delhi have been filled yet? This has all the marking of a school system that simply doesn't care about athletics. Makes no sense to drag it out this long.

This isn't getting much attention, but these are 2 jobs that can attract some good names. What are the updates on this job? Which job is more desirable Rayville or Delhi?

I don't know anything about Delhi except that I had a tasty chicken sandwich at their Burger King this one time. Keep in mind that Rayville is still on an interim principal. Not knowing who your boss is going to be may also make some people squeamish.

It’s amazing that no one seems to want these jobs. What the heck is going on in Richland Parish that makes these jobs so undesirable?

Another Richland Parish coaching job open at Mangham So every head coaching job in Richland Parish is now open? Is that correct? What the heck is going on there to make everyone leave and why is Rayville and Delhi still looking after all these months?

They obviously DO NOT CARE about the football programs in Rayville or Delhi. People have applied and have tried to call, text and email repeatedly. They have not been called, texted, or emailed back. Repeatedly...

Repeatedly... You applied for both? I applied for the Rayville job. I emailed the Principal and the Superintendent. I called both and left messages for both that were not returned. Silence speaks volumes... I wouldn't go near neither with a ten foot pole now. If the leadership doesn't care, I bet the school atmosphere alone is horrible. Well, unless you play basketball...

A lot of the lack of interest is due to not knowing who will evaluate a coach's job performance. The district will give an interim principal the power to make personnel decisions with the superintendent giving his stamp of approval. At Rayville, it was known that the last "permanent" principal would be moving up to a district job and it was known for a full year...still, they opted out of giving a successor a permanent title. Perhaps the same is happening elsewhere, including Mangham.
The superintendent also relies on the district personnel director and the district "talent pipeline coordinator" to evaluate effectiveness independently. There is no district athletic director to oversee anything. Essentially three separate entities can evaluate and decide on the effectiveness of a coach/teacher and the superintendent will sign off on their recommendations.
Basketball coaches deal with this as well, but the talent in the area makes it worth it for them. As the district's schools continue to shrink, more will be placed on each and every remaining employee. Coaches are not exempt from this, nor are they exempted from "last hired, first fired."
I think in five or so years, Richland Parish High School will become a real possibility.

I don't know how it is at Mangham and Delhi, but Rayville literally has/had no one to promote. Prior to last season, they had only two full-time assistant coaches - their OC and DBs coach. Both left for better-paying jobs. Rayville this past season had a HC and maybe three volunteers - not all of them had coached football before, but they wanted to help him out. So Rayville got to the playoffs with literally one full-time coach. I don't think Tharpe had the same issues (Mangham was always well-coached under him) but you can see why even schools like Mansfield could seem like a step up in resources.

Also, full-time assistants at either school will have their hands full. Rayville does not offer PE. Delhi and Mangahm do according to the district Web site, but it's fairly out of date. Point being, any full-time staff will be carrying a full teaching load. Rayville had one assistant teaching math with no planning period. Another taught five classes in language arts and also was head coach of another sport. Basketball deals with the same...Rayville and Delhi's success is even more amazing because you have head coaches teaching their butts off.
Don't get it twisted, I'm not saying all coaches should have, like, full-time lunch duty or anything. But coaches in Richland Parish are under a heavier load than most.
